The Question Everyone is Asking…

Why don’t you just sell on Teachers Pay Teachers?

I’m so glad you asked! I have had to think through this myself since this endeavor is quite time-consuming and there is a pre-loved platform (TPT (: ) that has a large following built in, which makes it an easy place to host pre-made resources. But time and again, I have had the deep feeling that my dreams for this are larger than what Teachers Pay Teachers can offer.

Tailor-Made Teacher has an entirely different purpose and mission than TPT. While TPT provides a great hub for teachers to create and sell resources, customers have little to no say in what they want. From the start, I knew I wanted my business to be 100% about teachers, about YOU. In my opinion, I can’t say I am completely for teachers if I don’t do everything in my power to listen to them, create for them, include them in the creation process, and support them along the way.

Additionally, my business concept is much broader than stock resources. I want to build a community of clients that feel seen, listened to, and invested in. I envision walking with my faithful clients throughout the entire school year, providing support and resources as needed. I want to create and sell resources that truly matter to my clients and that reflect what they actually need and struggle to find elsewhere. And finally, I want to eventually provide coaching to those same clients. This format best allows for that.

One of the things that makes Tailor-Made Teacher unique is virtually my whole store inventory is based on what real teachers have requested. It was through conversations with a former colleague that the Diwali resource was born. She needed something for the holiday and couldn’t find quality resources. She was included in the creation process and even previewed the activity.

I recently received an order from a friend who needed an English Language Learner resource for spooky adjectives. We had a phone call and chatted about what she may like to see on it. Through that conversation, her vision was able to come to life.

I’m not focused on numbers and selling hundreds of products. I want to treat educators, like you, with the respect and professionalism you deserve, bringing human connection into the process.

Simply put, it’s more than selling a product, it’s about building a community and serving the teachers in the trenches for whom I have the utmost respect.

I want to create what you actually need and want you to be a part of the process. So, don’t be shy! Keep me in mind next time you need something, even if it’s something intangible like prayer or support. When it feels like the world is against you, I want to be someone that is here for you. We need each other.

Hope to hear from you soon,

Erin
